JAYSON WEDGE’S Candidate Statement: As a parent of a 25 and 20 year old that went to Auburn Elementary School I was very involved in their education. Now with a 5 and 3 year old I get to do it all over again. I have seen a decline of a parent having a voice in their children’s education. As a School Board Trustee, I believe their priority is to be this voice for the parents. And I intend to be this voice by not only listening but also taking actions on their behalf. Another priority for a School Board Trustee is to ensure the curriculum meets the state standards. We have been seeing these standards on a minimum level with other learning styles being implemented in our schools. We can do better than the minimum and if necessary, take out these other learning styles that go against the parent’s desires. I intend to address the current curriculum and form a community parent committee. The goal is to create a new curriculum that not only meets the state standards but also to give the parents a voice on what is taught. Its easier to educate now than to uneducated years later.
